Figuratively, the French expression je ne sais quoi refers to that 'little indescribable something' we all wish we had. But in a purely literal sense, it simply means I don't know what. That right there perfectly encapsulates my relationship to beauty.

Review for Lipikar Cleansing Oil by La Roche Posay

It's Winter where I'm at. Before you start feeling sorry for me, I should probably mention that I live in a tropical region of the world. Hence Winter here, no matter how you stretch it, is nothing exceedingly horrific. Try telling that to my crybaby body, though. It has been so spoiled by the weather, it is so used to mellow temperatures, that the second there's just a small drop in degrees it puts on a traumatized act that has me near convinced I'm this close to hypothermia.

My body is a drama queen.

Of course, the last thing this drama queen body wants to be doing is standing around naked and shivering after the shower while I try to lather literal cold cream all over with shaking hands. When, yes, it's the exact time I'd be needing it most. Drama, I tell you.

So.

Bye bye smooth skin.

Hello crocodile scales (and tears).

And enter my newfound solution for the lazy girl who still wants to feel lovely just after the cut although, oops, is that a spoiler I spot in the title to this post?

Lipikar Cleansing Oil by La Roche Posay
Lipid-Replenishing Cleansing Oil, Anti Irritation, Paraben-Free
Suitable for babies as well as adults - which always reassures me somehow, because if it's good for babies, it's good for me, since I'm basically just a big baby.

I bought this product on impulse. I figured I had best place my bets on hydrating as best I could during the deliciously scalding overlong showers, rather than after. But I was already regretting the purchase before having even tried it, to be honest. Oil & showering? Why did I even. I pictured myself skating on puddles of said oil over slippery shower tiles - and my imaginary arabesques were not the stuff of Olympics. Although I suppose I could have made the Oilympics. Which is why I was so pleasantly surprised upon actually using Lipikar Cleansing Oil to discover how light the formula is. You only need a very little, and that very little foams nicely. Once washed off, there is not a trace of greasy residue left on the skin anywhere. In fact, at this point of the testing process, my pessimistic-by-default mind now thought maybe it cleansed too well.

Surely this was going to leave my skin super clean but super dry too?

But once my skin had dried I realized it was perfectly hydrated.

Perfectly.

I swear, for the first time in years, I felt truly comfortable in my own skin. It's not that when I ran a finger over my arm I felt the satiny texture of something moisturizing sitting on top. There was no layer. Just my very own skin right there, feeling like I last remember it feeling when I was a child.

Like my skin was naturally nourished from within for reals.

As you see, this is such a miraculous product, I can't describe it other than by abusing italics.

The only bad thing about it is that when it ran out and I couldn't repurchase it right away, I experienced severe withdrawal symptoms, craving that exquisite, clean, supple sensation all over. I am not even exaggerating. But! I've since bought another bottle.

That's right, this post comes to you courtesy of one happy addict!

I'll go back to running my finger along my forearm creepily now, but I'm keeping the fingers of my other hand crossed that this post proves helpful to people with issues similar to mine.

  2. Hello Freya!

I'm surprised there aren't more rave reviews about this body cleanser around the beauty blogosphere. Your comment makes me realize I never think of body skin (as opposed to face) as being potentially combination...but I should! This product is as neutral as they come, so I feel like any skin type can benefit from it - or at least not be any worse for the wear. My own skin type is best described as 'whimsical' and it probably qualifies as combination at times. The neutral aspect of this cleanser is probably a big reason why it works for me. Just purchased it again two days ago, as a matter of fact :). And my mom is totally addicted to it too, now. If you have a sec, let me know how you are liking it, I'd love to know.
